Old Age Security
The OAS pension is a monthly payment available to seniors who meet the following requirements.
You must be 65 years or older
You must live in Canada and be a Canadian citizen or a person authorized to live in Canada at the moment of the approval of your application for the Pension Plan
You must have lived in Canada for at least 10 years after your 18th birthday

Guaranteed Income Supplement
The GIS provides a monthly, non-taxable benefit to OAS pension recipients living in Canada who have a low income.
You are eligible for the Guaranteed Income Supplement if you meet the following criteria:
You receive the Old Age Security benefits
Your annual income (or for a couple, your combined annual income) is less than the maximum threshold established for the year
